SOME FACT on CFL’s
CFL Compact Fluorescent Light Bulb or bulbs
1. The “swirly” bulbs are roughly 75% more efficient than standard incandescent bulbs, and they last up to 10 times longer, saving users some money. This is a good thing.
2. CFL’s (all) contain mercury, which is toxic. This is a very bad thing.
3. CFL’s (many) do not like to be cold, so they operate slower and may suffer from shorter lifespan if they are placed in outdoor or unheated fixtures in cold climates. LEDs, are more tolerant of cold temperatures.
4. If you have rapidly switching CFL’s, it can decreases lifespan, by as much as 85%, according to certain experts. Halogens can be switched more frequently and can handle more cycles.
5. The glowing part of CFL’s is made of glass, which means it is relatively fragile. If that breaks, a small amount of mercury can be released.
6. CFL’s are relatively large and may not want them on boats, cars and other vehicles and they do not do well with cold or vibrations.
7. Many CFL’s are not dimmable
8. Finally what happens to our ground water after a zillion of these ends up dumps ?, you may have to pay to dispose of these in the future, according to German scientists you can be burned or even get cancer from CFL’s.
