BELOW ARE THE TEN ODORS
When you walk into the front door of any house, take a big whiff. You may have just entered one of these homes.
1. Big dog odor has a musky perspiration odor that also comes with paw scratched floors, urine stained floors, chewed window trim, dog hair everywhere, dust mites, and backyard dog poop droppings.
2. Cat pee odor homes come with pet auto water feeders, kitty liter boxes, pictures of cats on walls, pet cremation urns, real stuffed pets, and signs on walls that say “DO NOT LET THE CAT OUT.
3. Burnt or burning firewood smell or chimney fireplace odor comes from open dampers, negative house pressure from a poorly balanced furnace or HVAC short chimney, blocked chimney, and more. You will see stored fire wood in the garage, carpet ash burns and backyard logs that still need splitting.
4. Cigarette smoke, smoker, smoking odor comes with filled ash trays, yellow stains on walls, yellow stains on ceilings, and lighters on coffee tables for children to play with.
5. Cooking spice or ethnicity odors can breakdown down to the Indian curry, Italian garlic, Euro or European sweat body armpit odor, Asian or Chinese fried whatever, Canadians with bacon with maple syrup odor (OK so I made this odor up), and finally, that very odd strange odd boiling water odor, which can be associated with Vietnamese neighborhoods that no longer have stray cats, pigeons or squirrels. If it smells like rotten eggs or “hydrogen sulfide”, you may have well water issues, water heater manganese rod reactions, or sometimes even corrosive Chinese drywall problems.
6. Oodoriferous, or trash odor smells, is a mishmash of old garbage bags, piles of garbage, dirty dishes, pizza boxes, old rotting Chinese carryout, cigarette buts on rotting dirty food plates and more. This group includes FEMA trailers, hillbillies, hoarders and a few more. The TVs generally have Jerry Springer, WWF wrestling, “My Name is Earl” , “Jersey Shore”, or “Honey Boo Boo” playin. Some of these homes are so nasty that the house cockroaches ride around on dune buggies and you have to wipe your feet off before you go outside.
7. Musty mold odor or mildew odor can come from a leak, a moist crawl space, vented crawlspace, high indoor humidty, a flooded basement, an overflow of a sump pump, a moldy attic, a foreclosed home, a “vacant home, a “bank owned home” and sometimes the odor comes from dirty AC coils. In some of these houses, PEOPLE may become Immune compromised, get ADD, develop sensitivities, have post traumatic mold syndrome, and even memory loss, expect of coarse on the first day of each month when they miraculously get memory relapse and remember the location of their mailbox where their mental illness governmental assistance check is waiting for them.
8. “Electrical odor” may be from cheap imported rugs with rubber smelly padding that can also stain your wood floors. Most of the time, these odors are not electrical.
9. Air freshener or air fresheners. You walk 3 miles a day, eat tofu, buy organic then you chemically poison the air you breathe in your home with air fresheners.
10. New house odor is similar due to the house being very tight with out gassing chemicals, with out gassing VOC’s and with out gassing formaldehyde. Just keep the windows open you will be fine.
11. Stone moisture sulfur odor may be coming from the backfill stone under your home. This was common during the housing boom in the late 1990’s and early 2000.
12. Sewer gas odor is usually from tree roots in sewers, back siphoned S-Traps, loose toilets, and cracked stacks and more.
13. Additionally, we have old people odor, heating oil odor, combustion fume odor, dead mouse odor, dirty sock odor, country or antique house odor, and farm animal house odor.
