The GOOD Part 1 Collinwood Art Zodiac Walls Sculptures the GOOD, The Bad and the Ugly Video Series This first video features Jerry Schmidt a local abstract artist and sculptor specializing in painted and unfinished metal and steel multi scale sculptures. Jerry Schmidt earlier work reflected the influence of his late father, Fred Schmidt a very well-known artist and sculpture who has many art pieces Cleveland, Chicago and Florida
Jerry Schmidt creates elegant and refined works using sweeping forms and geometric shapes that defy gravity. Jerry uses many colors as well as different forms that all help create the mood and experience. Some sculptures are painted in bright colors which, appear to be fun and playful. Other sculptures employ darker colors which reflected the light from the unfinished areas, and others are shiny or reflective that pull you in and makes the observer become part of the piece. Jerry y states that his work is conceived spontaneously and he views the images below the surface of his conscience. Furthermore he states that his experience becomes an inspiration for the images. Jerry mentally stores these images so later he can return to them some time in the future to recreate them. Jerry stated in an interview with FineArtAMercia.com (where you can view and purchase some of his works) “Often I will stop working on one piece and start working on another. The unfinished piece may lay untouched for years before I realize how long it has been forgotten. I will begin working again as though I had never stopped. Stepping back from the work for a while allows me the freedom to pursue my creative processes by joining and merging past and present experience. The creation of a work marks a particular time and place in my existence by capturing a glimpse of the past.
