Who am I?
I am Marko Vovk a full time home inspector for about 30 years. I have taught thousands of home inspectors at the National ASHI convention, many local home inspector conventions, many home inspector weekend seminars, ICC, and other conventions. I have thought a National ASHI convention for the last 8 years. I have performed over 14,000 home inspections, have a degree in civil engineering, have licenses in WWI, Lead, and Radon, and have certifications in CEI, ICC, CO, HVAC balancing.

Course Description:

This course will provide the experienced home inspector all the necessary skills to perform Residential Forensic Home Inspections. This course will give both the novice and experienced home inspector an edge in diagnosing residential home inspection conditions. Goals of the course will include learning about the various moisture intrusion vehicles, building science and understanding basic building science concepts. Numerous forensic investigation case studies using a variety of forensic tools will be provided to accomplish this objective. Moisture can cause serious damage to the structure of your home. Moisture causes more than $1 billion in damage to homes annually, from minor damage like peeling paint, to major damage, such as rotting, crumbling structural floor joists. You can greatly reduce the cost of moisture damage in your home and eliminate the risk of structural loss if you learn how to control moisture. The PPP movie will provide you with this valuable information. It is important to control all sources of moisture that enters homes. Most moisture that is generally known to cause problems in homes is roof leaks, basement leaks, and plumbing leaks. These three types of leaks are the most obvious. Less obvious moisture infiltration sources are as follows:

1. Rainwater

2. Groundwater

3. Capillary suction below grade

4. Capillary suction above grade

5. Air movements

6. Air pressure

7. Vapor diffusion

The fee for this CLASS $39. I put it on a very cool 8 gig USB (shape like a key)

Your Electrical Panel Can Burn Down Your House

Your electrical panel can burn down your house. Hidden problems in electrical panels can burn down homes. Most basements have negative pressure caused by cold air returns are not sealed with furnace tape. These return ducts with small holes suck your basement, especially, if the door leading to the basement is closed. These depressurized basements suck, air from wall cracks, appliance vents, fireplaces, sump pumps, and electrical panels which is the focal point of this Marko Vovk video. Basement foundation walls are colder because they are underground and the unconditioned sucked in warm – moist air condensates within the cold electrical panel causing rust. Rusted panels can cause fires. Many electricians misdiagnose rusted or corrode panels as water leaking in or dripping in. Repairing these problems is simple. Seal the basement cold air returns, open several basement supply heat registers to help slightly pressurize basement, change the door to the basement to a louvered door and remove the rust form electrical panel. Four Little Ants

If your home has leaks, wet areas, or high indoor humidity, carpenter ants can thrive. If you see carpenter ants in your home soon after the winter snowmelts, you may have a carpenter ant colony. Go to the basement and look at joists under the entrance doors, windows, or porches. Many times these areas have small leaks. You may have to pull back the insulation to look. If you find a small pile of sawdust, look at it carefully. If you see black, shinny specs mixed in with sawdust, carpenter ants are nearby. The main carpenter ant colony, which usually is in a tree or buried tree stump, can have many small satellite colonies of which several can be in your home. If you see flying insects with curved bodies that have two different sized wings, and two curved antenna, you have carpenter ant reproductive trying to find a new moist area in your home to start a new satellite colony. If you see many small translucent wings that are two different sizes in window wells, sills, or floors, in your house may be whispering to you and it is time to call the bug man.

Cultured Stone Cladding THE TRUTH

Cultured Stone, veneer, faux or other fabricated stone cladding systems, may be leaking, infiltrating or permitting moisture, water or vapor intrusion. Many of these homes have hidden; inner wall, interstitial, insulation, band joist, sill plate, sole plate, joist, or wall deterioration. Additionally, certified home inspectors who perform moisture investigation evaluations are also finding insects, termite, carpenter ant, mold or musty odor problems. These siding products were specified by architects and were poorly installed by contractors. These installations were similar to the EIFS (Exterior Insulated Finish System) holocaust, epidemic, and crisis, which resulted in class action lawsuits against builders, developers and Dryvit Manufacturers. Installers failed to place the proper drainage plane, drainage space, capillary break, window flashing, door flashing, weep hole, or rain screen. In these poor installations, water or vapor travel from the exterior to the interior of from the interior to the exterior through gravity, surface tension, capillary suction, absorption, solar vapor diffusion and air pressure. Many of these homes, similar to the synthetic stucco homes, will require full moisture surveys to determine if replacement repairs are necessary. Most repairs will result is a 100% tear off removal. The truth about ICE DAMS

Moisture meters can misdiagnose moisture problems

Hello, this is Marko Vovk from <a href="http://
www.houseinvestigations.com” >www.houseinvestigations.com

Many home inspectors make the mistake of misdiagnosing moisture content in exterior walls. The surface non-pin moisture meter works on electromagnetic radio waves. If moisture is present, the gauge provides a positive reading. However, if there is interference such as a metal stud, cinder block foundation or in this example, foil-faced drywall or foil-faced sheathing also know as a radiant barrier, the meter will short circuit and show a high moisture reading. Your waterproofing or siding contractor may be making repairs that are not necessary. Radiant barriers have been used on and off for the last fifty years. Sometimes you need to use surface moisture meters, pin moisture meters and common sense. Thank you this is Marko Vovk from <a href="http://

Popping House Zits

Exterior paint blisters, peeling, and cracking paint that occur on older homes may be the cause of high indoor humidity. High indoor humidity is caused by indoor moisture generators such as a running furnace humidifier, a ventless heater, a dirt crawl space, a leaking dryer vent, a bathroom fan not properly exhausting, and much more. When the homes indoor humidity is higher than the exterior humidity, and grains of water travel through the walls to the exterior through a veichal called vapor diffusion. Older houses have many layers of paint that act like a plastic vapor barrier that does not let the house breath. In the winter, it is colder and dew point temperature is reached on the backside of the many layers of paint. Condensation occurs and water starts to accumulate like a water balloon until it pops like a zit and leaks out. Marko Vovk ClevelandMold, ClevelandMarko <a href="http://

Mold The Truth We have all been scammed

Mold is overrated. People in the USA and Canada have been scammed into paying a lot of money to have mold tested, cleaned, removed, disinfected, sanitized or mitigated. Many insurance companies have been paying out big bucks for mold clean up and water extraction to de-watering contractors and mold mitigations companies. If you see mold, smell mold, you have mold. Laboratory testing for black toxic or non-toxic mold, fungi, or mildew spores are usually unnecessary. Moisture problems from roof, plumbing, foundation, siding, EIFS, stucco, Cultured Stone, brick, or other building moisture intrusion, infiltration or leakage such sewer back-up, overflow, and sump pump failure, all need to be repaired prior to mold removal. Additionally, high indoor humidity needs to be lowered with the use of a de-humidifier. Finally, other indoor moisture generators such as sump pumps that do not have 100% seal covers, ventless heaters, fireplaces, and appliances, vented crawl space, wet basement, wet crawl space, and furnace humidifier also all need to be controlled. IAQ indoor air problems occur in damp houses. Marko Vovk ClevelandMold, ClevelandMarko Ambassador Construction Consultants LLC.
